An empty home in Naples still needs humidity control. Without it, moisture builds up in walls, furnishings and closets. Your insurer, association or manufacturer may also have requirements, so check those first. The settings below are a common starting point; ask your technician what fits your home.
Before you leave
- Schedule maintenance with a drain flush and float-switch test
- Install a fresh filter
- Set the thermostat to a moderate cooling setpoint rather than Off (many owners use the high 70s °F); follow any insurer or association rules
- If your thermostat has humidity control, set a target (often around 50–55% relative humidity)
- Set the fan to Auto, not On
- Consider a Wi-Fi thermostat or humidity sensor with alerts
- Consider a water sensor in the drain pan or at the air handler
- Leave access instructions and our number with whoever checks the home
While you're away
Someone should look at the home regularly: the thermostat reading, any water near the air handler and any musty smell. If you use a home watch service, give them permission to call us. Our sister brand Uniform Home Watch provides documented home checks in Southwest Florida.
When you return
- Replace the filter
- Check the drain pan and line
- Run the system and confirm cool air and normal sounds
- Note any musty smells and call if they persist
